Monday Check-In

I've been trying to "listen to my body" this week.  I am starting to get pains in my knee and hip and that just isn't going to work when I want to do a marathon!  So I am trying to go less distance at a slower pace.  I am having to walk more than I am used to and it's been frustrating, but I know in this case I can't just push through the pain.
So here's the run down for the week:
Monday- 3.2
Tues. - 5.2
Wed. - 0
Thurs. - 0
Fri. - 4.0
Sat. - 8.0 (walking about half of it)
Total for the week:  20.4

So this week I am going to try and do mostly walking and maybe head to the gym to use the eliptical machine.  I am determined to do my best to do this the right way, because as much as I want to meet this goal I set for myself, I also don't want to ruin my body......I'm still young, ya' know!

Tasha,

Everyone has their own training method and what works for one person may not for another. But, after 17 marathons I tried a new approach on my last one (1999) and that was to run for 10 minutes and walk for 1-2 minutes. Not only did my finish time stay about the same, I wasn't nearly as "broken down" as any of the previous ones. I'm sure Garrett has/can tell you how much the marathons took out of me. You may want to consider this approach. It will seem pretty weird at first, but as you build your milage you'll see the benefits. Just a suggestion. Bottom line, it's your marathon and you should do it however you want to.

You go girl! i would drop dead. I walked a few times at lunch time with some of the girls and if i don't eat enough i am faint and weak.
Happy marathon. I salute you.

Tasha, I was going to suggest the training method that Bobby did. I know how much better he felt using this method. Rick and Reghan, Joe's daughter and son-in-law, used the same method and it really works . Keep up the good work. I am so proud of you. My farthest runs were The Bay to Breakers and I couldn't have run another step after passing the finish line.
Love, Sandy

O.K. another week of not enough walks. Anyway, Tues., Wed., Thurs. and Friday I did 4 miles each day in the Marina. This week WILL be better.

I hope you are able to get some relief with either a different type of insert for you shoes or maybe none, right? As Dennis mentioned to you the other day................listen to your body and don't press to hard. Your mileage has been great. Love ya
