Superbowl Sunday

I have officially signed up for my first 10k race.  The Redondo Beach Superbowl Sunday 10k to be exact.  It looks like a lot of fun and Garrett said he ran it years ago a few times.  I am excited about it, but a little nervous at the same time.  Just keep in mind, I am not trying to win any medals!
I have also joined the Santa Clarita Runners, which is a group that gets together throughout the week to run.  Saturdays, they do a 10 mile run, Sundays they do some marathon training runs, and then they have some shorter runs throughout the week.  This past Saturday I went 9 miles, thinking it was more like 10 or 11.  It's been hard getting back into it.  But it's nice now because I go out for a 3 to 4 mile run and it feels like I am just getting warmed up.
By the way, I never mentioned that I finally opened my present from Garrett on Christmas morning and it was just what I wanted..... an iPod shuffle.  The surprise part of it was that Garrett had it engraved with "Run, Tasha, Run".  I have downloaded several songs on it and even got an iTunes gift card so I can buy something other that Gar's selections!
Sure looks like I am getting all ready.  The only thing that I hadn't really thought about is that the days when I will be doing most of my "real" training will be right when it is sooooo hot here.  I guess I will be getting up real early to do anything then.  It's still a ways off, but it's on my mind, a lot!

WOW, that is awesome, Tasha!! We hope to be there to cheer you on. That is a very fun race..people dress up in different costumes. I have cheered on various members of the family in the past and once I ran/walked the race...probably mostly walked it. :) But I got a pink 10K T-shirt for trying.!
That is wonderful that you have joined the Santa Clarita runners....they will give you support and help you stay on task. I admire your running goals, Tasha!! Love, Paula

Good for you, Tasha! It really helps to have running buddies. When I trained for a half marathon, I ran with my girlfriends Esther and Alyson. We kept each other motivated and we could groan together during the run.
I remember my first 10K. It was Santa Monica Pier 10K. I ran it alone, but when the race started, a nice young man (back then I was young, too, about your age)came running alongside me. He was out on a run and decided to join in the race. He talked me through the run, encouraging me and distracting me from my exhaustion. When the race was done, I went through the chute and then looked for him to thank him. He was gone. I have always felt that God sent him as an angel to help me through the race. It was such a feeling of accomplishment. I know it will be that for you. Plus, the RB 10K is such fun and great entertainment. I remember one year I ran/walked it with Matt's friend, Matt Pevic. He had asthma and so we would run and then walk when he needed to. It was so great to watch him pass the finish line.
We look forward to celebrating your first victory!
Love ya,
Denise

Tasha, I am so impressed with your running. It does really help to run with a partner. When I ran, I had a running partner. There were days when I didn't feel like running, however I didn't want to let my running partner down, so I ran.
Keep up the good work.
Love Sandy
