In The Spirit of Giving

Can you even read that picture?  I was going to take another one, but just realized I took my shirt off and put both the shirt and the sticker into the wash.  Great!  Anyway, in the spirt of giving I gave blood today.  I saw a sign up while driving around that there was an emergency blood drive today, so I decided that instead of running around mindlessly, not knowing what gifts to buy people because it's getting so close to Christmas and if I haven't gotten the gifts by now, what's the point..... I decided instead to take a break and do something more worth while.
I used to love going with my mom when she would give blood because I got to sit and eat cookies while I waited for her to be done!  I always thought it was a great, easy way to give and so I knew that I wanted to continue it when I grew up.  I have not been nearly as consistent as my mom was.  The last time I gave blood we lived in Bakersfield.  But now that the boys are getting older and it's getting easier for me to get out of the house on my own once in a while,  I hope to continue the trend..... and the cookies at the end always help.

On another note, Kevin had his school performance today and did a GREAT job.  They performed once for the parents first thing this morning.  Then they did four more performances after that for all the different grades.  He said he liked the part where he ran around in a circle because it made him out of breath.  He gets so serious when he performs though.  He spotted me one time and tried really hard not to smile.  He's such a cutie!

Wow, what great thing's that have been happening with the Riley family. The video of Zach is soooooooooooooo cute!! How great to have Zach help with the cookies. Also Kevin and his performance at school looked great. I wish we could have been there but 8:30 a.m. would have been a bit early. Anyway it looks like Christmas has been a great time with Kevin & Zach. Can't wait to see you all on Christmas day. What a wonderful time of year it is. Love you all, Susan

I'm so proud of both you and Graham for continuing to donate blood. As you may know, Dad can't donate because he had Hep.A when we were in Africa,so I've tried to do his share too... I've donated about 19 gallons. I haven't gone in for some time now, but you're a good motivator. And what a great gift you're giving someone for Christmas! Love you, Mom

I agree with Susan, Namie & the Captain: Zach's video is so precious that once I saw it, I forwarded your blog to my dearest friends and my family. I have told them how awesome you are to do it and that each blog is like a present. Even if I weren't their grandma, I would still enjoy reading about their/your antics. In addition, I agree with your mom: How nice that you and Graham donate blood. Your mom set a good example. Bob always donated blood as frequently as possible for as many years as I can remember. It is such a precious gift, to help save someone's life. Now, because he takes meds, he is precluded from donating. I am sorry to say that I have not donated in a long time. I gave all the time at UCLA (and ashamedly because we got "comp" time). I have been wanting to do it again. Good New Year's resolution.
