L.A. Zoo

Zach and I took a spur of the moment trip to the Zoo on Tues.  It's nice to be able to have some one on one time with the each boy once in while.  We had fun looking at all the animals.  His goal was to find the Lion, Zebra, Giraffe, and Hippo because those are on the movie Madagascar (you should see Zach dance to this song!).  We found all but the Hippo and we said we would have to see him next time.  My favorite was the baby ape that was so close to the glass.  Zach could have cared less though.  He was having more fun pushing the stroller around.
We started the day seeing the baby giraffe, only 13 days old.

Zach's gorilla face.
And his Lion face.
And I was telling him to keep his eyes open on this one.
And Zach captured this rare photo of the mama!

WOW! What fun pictures. I loved the one of the baby giraffe with her wrinkled neck. You saw her on her very first day out for the public to see her. She was only on exhibit from 10-12:30 for all that week as we try to get her used to the crowds. She is pretty skittish when she sees quick movements or hears loud noises. They feed her around 12 noon with a big baby bottle. I hope to be able to be there next week to see that. So sorry that I missed you that day. I had forgotten to bring my cellphone into the zoo that day and so got your message after I was already on the freeway to a meeting. Maybe we can do a spur of the moment thing again on a Tuesday when I am there. I will not forget to bring my cellphone and then just leave it on vibrate. It makes me feel so proud that Zachie would want to go to the zoo and visit our animals. They were pretty active on Tuesday. The zebras were kicking and biting each other and running around the enclosure. The lions were enjoying a spring fling! The chimpanzees were playing a brisk game of follow the leader. The siamangs (small apes)were making there woo-woo, squeal-squeal noises. The koalas were literally racing along the eucalyptus branches and the kangaroos were doing lots of jumping. What a fun day at the zoo. Each day is different. Enjoy.
Lotsa love,
Grandma Dee

Ooops! I forgot to mention that Zach does a REALLY GOOD gorilla face. The mommy gorilla might have thought he was hers!
